Bainbridge studied zoology and veterinary medicine at Cambridge, before spending a year in private mixed veterinary practice. Bainbridge has undertaken frequent veterinary work ever since. After leaving practice, he studied for a PhD at the Zoological Society of London’s Institute of Zoology at Regent’s Park Zoo, followed by post-doctoral work at the Oxford University Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After a lectureship at the Royal Veterinary College, Bainbridge took up his present job as the Cambridge University Clinical Veterinary Anatomist.

Bainbridge has published numerous academic papers on reproductive biology and is recognized as an expert on the subject. He has served as a professor of veterinary anatomy at the University of Cambridge, and was formerly a veterinarian at the Zoological Society of London. He has also worked as a research fellow at the Smithsonian Institution and the University of Michigan.

Bainbridge’s first book, “The X in Sex: How the X Chromosome Controls Our Lives,” was published in 2003. The book explores the role of the X chromosome in human biology and society. His second book, “Teenagers: A Natural History,” examines the biology of adolescence and how it has evolved over time.

In his third book, “Curvology: The Origins and Power of Female Body Shape,” Bainbridge delves into the science behind female body shape and how it impacts women’s behaviors and attitudes. He argues that society’s obsession with thinness is unfounded in terms of evolution and biology.

Bainbridge has also written for various publications, such as The Guardian, New Scientist, and The Times. In addition to his writing, he has also appeared on radio and television programs, providing expertise on biology and medicine.

Bainbridge is a fellow at St. Catharine’s College, a medium sized college in the centre of Cambridge which has made a greater commitment than any other to teaching biology and pre-clinical students. Bainbridge is also a pastoral tutor and admissions tutor at the college.

In summary, David Bainbridge is a highly accomplished author, veterinarian, biologist, and medical doctor. He has made significant contributions to the field of reproductive biology. His books explore the biology behind social and cultural phenomena, bringing scientific rigor and insight to public discourse.
